We’re tracking a rapidly developing area of low pressure that could bring disruptive winds and heavy rain across southern parts of the UK during Thursday night and Friday.
Our main areas of focus are south-west England, the Channel coasts, the Channel Islands and northern France. Irish Sea coasts could also be affected for a time, depending on how the system develops and tracks.
There is potential for damaging gusts, perhaps in excess of 75–80mph in the most exposed locations. This remains an uncertain scenario, with the strength and position of the low determining where the greatest impacts occur.
The exact track is crucial. Relatively small changes could make a significant difference to which areas experience the strongest winds and heaviest rain.
If the system tracks further north, other parts of England and Wales could also be at risk. Areas outside the current focus should therefore keep an eye on updates as the forecast develops.
For those with travel plans, outdoor activities or work along exposed coasts, this is a system to watch closely. Should the stronger wind scenario develop, disruption could be significant.
We’ll continue monitoring the latest guidance and refine the areas at risk as confidence increases in the track, timing and potential impacts.
